Plants require micronutrients and macronutrients. When both are readily available to plants and assuming light requirements and CO2 requirements are met, then plants grow healthy and beautiful. However if any of the nutrients is not in balance then plants show symptoms of the nutrient deficiency and algae might appear rapidly within days. Below is a list of micro and macro nutrients and their benefits towards plants:

Macronutrients:
1. Potassium
2. Nitrogen
3. Phosphate

Micronutrients:
1. Magnesium
2. Iron
